Phoenix Classics Monthly Newsletter - October 2025

Issue #2 : Published

A Note from the Chairman

First of all, I’d like to give a warm welcome to Janine Thompson, who has joined our committee. Janine will play an important role in helping the club attend more shows next year and will also be working to strengthen our online presence with short videos and other content.

A big thank you to all the members who regularly attend our meetings your continued support keeps the club going strong.

Last month, after a successful trial period, we decided to make our meeting at The Castle Pub, Runcorn, a permanent one. We’ll now be meeting there on the 4th Sunday of every month. The food is homemade, the staff are fantastic and always willing to help, and as a bonus, the management are petrolheads just like us.

We’ve also had great turnouts at our other regular venues - The Manor Farm, The Black Swan, and The Harrow Inn.

- Carl Harry

Last Month’s Highlights

NWCC Monthly Meeting -

Members were invited to join the North West Casual Classics at their monthly meeting to listen to a talk given by a member of the local Police on road policing.

St Helens Transport Museum -

We attended the Transport Museum event hosted by Northwest Casuals. There was a bit of confusion with parking when we arrived but this was quickly sorted out with help from the museum staff. The event itself went really well and most of our members enjoyed a nostalgic ride around St Helens on a classic double decker bus. For me it brought back memories of school bus rides. - Carl Harry

Phoenix at Halton Castle -

Our new regular Sunday morning at Halton Castle is proving to be popular. Phil Read writes: "Thanks to landlady (or is it person these days?) Helen for hosting us. Not many here due to museum visit but nice breakfast, good chat and many more to come".

Cholmondeley Castle -

Some of our members attended Cholmondeley Castle. What a fantastic venue! I hadn’t been before and was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the place. There were plenty of stalls selling second hand car parts and bric a brac, I spent a good hour browsing around. - Carl Harry

Heritage Car Show, St Helens Town Centre -

Our club attended the St Helens Classic Car Show hosted by our good friends at St Helens Classics. It was a great success despite the downpour of rain towards the end. It’s just a shame that ongoing town centre construction limited the available spaces. - Carl Harry

Club News & Notices

  • A warm welcome to Janine Thompson as part of our committee, she'll be responsible for Social Media output and running day trips out to places of interest.
  • Janine Thompson is organising a weekend at the Newark Autojumble for club members, 18th-19th October.
  • Sad news from Rainhill Cricket Club: "It’s with great sadness that Rainhill Cricket Club will not be running a gala in 2026. This particular gala caused more stress than it was worth with numerous cancellations which in turn affected the quality of our gala. In addition, we were competing with about 5 other events on the day. We will review our position again in 2027. Apologies to all those who have supported our gala over the past 5 years. We thank you for your continued support. - Mike, Chair at Rainhill CC"
  • The annual New Years Day "Brass Monkeys" morning classic car meeting at the Black Swan has historically been organised by the North West Casual Classics but next year we at Phoenix are taking the reins. Thursday January 1st, 2026, from 9.30am.

  • Peter Evans won first place in the Sports and Convertible class at the Cholmondeley Castle show with his lovely Alfa Romeo Spider.
